AI Agent Wars: Anthropic Targets Professionals with Claude Duet
Anthropic’s new Claude Duet app focuses on business automation and daily briefings rather than personal errands, entering a crowded market of AI agents.

The race to build the definitive artificial intelligence assistant has become a fierce competition, with new contenders emerging weekly. In this landscape, Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a new application designed to compete directly with established players like Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo. The company positions this launch as a strategic move to capture user attention by offering a specialized tool for a specific demographic.
Claude Duet is explicitly designed for professionals and small businesses, focusing on task automation and management. Anthropic draws a sharp line between its new agent and personal assistants like Instinct, noting that Duet is not intended for handling minor errands or booking tickets. Furthermore, the app does not provide a live visual feed of its browser activity, distinguishing its operational style from other market participants.
Instead of managing trivial personal tasks, the agent is built to construct daily briefings, generate custom dashboards, and propose actions based on user data. Like its competitors, Duet operates within its own virtual machine, allowing it to complete tasks in the background while the user continues with their day. It will only interrupt the user when specific approval is required for a next step.
This release coincides with a broader industry shift from simple chatbots to autonomous agents that work on a user's behalf. Many of Anthropic's rivals are increasingly emphasizing business applications. For instance, while Meta’s Muse serves as a personal assistant, the company has also rolled out a version tailored for small businesses with deeper app integrations. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots leans toward business use cases through its connections to professional tools.
Under the hood, Duet is powered by the Claude Opus 5.5 model and connects to more than 6,000 plugins and connectors available in the Claude Marketplace. The agent can proactively monitor ongoing tasks and deliver recommendations. It also has the capability to make online purchases on a user's behalf using Stripe’s Link digital wallet or Shopify’s Shop Pay, though sensitive financial steps require explicit user approval. Notably, the agent will not trade securities or transfer funds between bank accounts.
To address security concerns, Anthropic has introduced a new classifier that scans every message to prevent the leakage of sensitive information. By default, the system is configured to decline requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification. This layer of protection aims to make the agent more suitable for professional environments where data privacy is critical.
Claude Duet is currently available in a research preview for Pro and Max customers. It can be accessed via iOS and Android apps or through the web interface at Claude.ai. Interested users must join a waitlist to gain access to the platform, signaling that Anthropic is still refining the experience before a wider general release.
